U.S. exports of Potassic fertilizers increased 15.39 percent from $148.62 million to $171.49 million through the first two months of 2019 when compared to the same period the previous year, according to WorldCity analysis of the latest U.S. Census Bureau data.

The category ranked 236 through February among the roughly 1,265 export commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 260 for the last full year with a total value of $1.05 billion, a $230.31 million, 28.13 percent increase from the 2017 total.

Through February of this year the top trade partners were No. 1 China, No. 2 South Korea, No. 3 Australia, No. 4 Taiwan and No. 5 Belgium. The leading gateways were No. 1 Port of Portland, Ore., No. 2 Port of Galveston, Texas, No. 3 El Paso Border Crossing, Texas, No. 4 Detroit Ambassador Bridge, Mich. and No. 5 Port of Tampa, Fla..

  • Detroit Ambassador Bridge, Mich. fell 12.19 percent compared to last year to $1.1 million.
  • Port of Tampa, Fla. fell 81.71 percent compared to last year to $859,215.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. exports to No. 1 China increased $1.42 million, 3.26 percent, (26.16 percent of all shipments).
  • U.S. exports to No. 2 South Korea increased $8.14 million, 45.94 percent, (15.08 percent market share).
  • U.S. exports to No. 3 Australia increased $5.58 million, 36.67 percent, (12.12 percent market share).
  • U.S. exports to No. 4 Taiwan increased $5.74 million, 76.18 percent, (7.74 percent market share).
  • U.S. exports to No. 5 Belgium increased $1.67 million, 14.58 percent, (7.66 percent of all shipments).

All totaled, 68.75 percent of all these Potassic fertilizers exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through February of this year. That is equal to $117.91 million of the $171.49 million total.
