U.S. exports of Sunflower, safflow, cottonseed oil decreased 5.27 percent from $73.25 million to $69.39 million through the first seven months of 2019 when compared to the same period the previous year, according to WorldCity analysis of the latest U.S. Census Bureau data.

The category ranked 696 through July among the roughly 1,265 export commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 692 for the last full year with a total value of $120.35 million, a $24.59 million, 25.68 percent increase from the 2017 total.

Through July of this year the top trade partners were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 Mexico, No. 3 Malaysia, No. 4 Australia and No. 5 Japan. The leading gateways were No. 1 Port Huron Blue Water Bridge, Mich., No. 2 Port of Southern Louisiana, Gramercy, St. James Parish, No. 3 Port Laredo, No. 4 Port of New Orleans and No. 5 Port of Oakland, Calif..

In the last previous full year, the top trade partners were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 Mexico, No. 3 Malaysia, No. 4 Japan and No. 5 Libya.   • Port of New Orleans fell 37.53 percent compared to last year to $7.69 million.
  • Port of Oakland, Calif. rose 13.97 percent compared to last year to $4.64 million.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. exports to No. 1 Canada decreased $2.64 million, 10.74 percent, (31.62 percent of all shipments).
  • U.S. exports to No. 2 Mexico decreased $96,092, 0.51 percent, (26.95 percent market share).
  • U.S. exports to No. 3 Malaysia increased $1.58 million, 25.08 percent, (11.34 percent market share).
  • U.S. exports to No. 4 Australia increased $5.72 million, 3805.15 percent, (8.46 percent market share).
  • U.S. exports to No. 5 Japan increased $155,043, 2.91 percent, (7.89 percent of all shipments).

All totaled, 86.26 percent of all these Sunflower, safflow, cottonseed oil exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through July of this year. That is equal to $59.86 million of the $69.39 million total.
