U.S. imports of Misc. garment accessories increased 8.10 percent from $42.17 million to $45.59 million through the first three months of 2019 when compared to the same period the previous year, according to WorldCity analysis of the latest U.S. Census Bureau data.

The category ranked 705 through March among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 723 for the last full year with a total value of $170.79 million, a $8.12 million, 4.99 percent increase from the 2017 total.

Through March of this year the leading sources were No. 1 China, No. 2 Mexico, No. 3 Italy, No. 4 India and No. 5 Taiwan. The leading gateways were No. 1 Port of Los Angeles, No. 2 Port of Newark, No. 3 Port of Long Beach, No. 4 John F. Kennedy International Airport and No. 5 Pharr International Bridge in Texas.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 China increased $2.49 million, 10.64 percent, (56.7 percent of all shipments).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 Mexico increased $161,912, 3.8 percent, (9.71 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 Italy increased $558,417, 21.15 percent, (7.02 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 India increased $414,300, 41.74 percent, (3.09 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 Taiwan increased $9,710, 0.8 percent, (2.69 percent of all shipments).

All totaled, 79.19 percent of all these Misc. garment accessories imports to the United States were shipped from the top five markets through March of this year. That is equal to $36.1 million of the $45.59 million total.
