The category ranked 667 through July among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 680 for the last full year with a total value of $223.89 million, a $13.17 million, 6.25 percent increase from the 2017 total.

Through July of this year the leading sources were No. 1 China, No. 2 France, No. 3 Mexico, No. 4 Italy and No. 5 South Korea. The leading gateways were No. 1 Port of Newark, No. 2 Port of Los Angeles, No. 3 John F. Kennedy International Airport, No. 4 Port Laredo and No. 5 Port of Long Beach.

  • Port of Long Beach fell 15.87 percent compared to last year to $7.34 million.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 China decreased $4.14 million, 5.49 percent, (53.21 percent of all shipments).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 France increased $6.16 million, 24.07 percent, (23.7 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 Mexico increased $7.75 million, 333.27 percent, (7.52 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 Italy decreased $1.9 million, 27.94 percent, (3.65 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 South Korea decreased $1.06 million, 24.1 percent, (2.49 percent of all shipments).
