The category ranked 808 through March among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 832 for the last full year with a total value of $119.54 million, a $25.76 million, 27.47 percent increase from the 2017 total.

  • Port of Oakland, Calif. fell 17.6 percent compared to last year to $3.86 million.
  • Nogales Border Crossing, Ariz. rose 10.65 percent compared to last year to $2.17 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 Ukraine increased $2.06 million, 34.14 percent, (29.02 percent of all shipments).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 Mexico increased $810,796, 20 percent, (17.44 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 The Netherlands decreased $668,725, 12.64 percent, (16.56 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 France increased $3.09 million, 379.42 percent, (13.98 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 Belgium decreased $581,601, 18.28 percent, (9.32 percent of all shipments).

All totaled, 86.31 percent of all these Sunflower, safflow, cottonseed oil imports to the United States were shipped from the top five markets through March of this year. That is equal to $24.08 million of the $27.9 million total.
