The category ranked 793 through October among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 826 for the last full year with a total value of $93.78 million, a $3.29 million, 3.63 percent increase from the 2016 total.

  • Port of Southern Louisiana, Gramercy, St. James Parish rose 45.59 percent compared to last year to $9 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 Ukraine increased $8.31 million, 43.89 percent, (25.98 percent of all shipments).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 Mexico increased $3.75 million, 23.18 percent, (19 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 The Netherlands decreased $4.21 million, 20.68 percent, (15.39 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 France increased $5.84 million, 65.99 percent, (14 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 Argentina increased $4.66 million, 215.24 percent, (6.5 percent of all shipments).
